SCCHS Genealogy Focus Group - Speakers Series As part of the SCCHS Genealogy Focus Group Speaker Series, Judith Blanton, a professional storyteller, and member of the SCCHS, will share the stories and pictures of Regina Minges Kohler (Judith’s grandmother), her family and their winery - "Native Wines.” Their property was the present day Heart of St. Charles Banquet Center and surrounding land. Dates: March 9, 2010 7:00pm Location: Admission FREE but Space Limited – RSVP by March 3, 2010 at (636) 946-9828 Storyteller: Judy Blanton (in costume) Topic: "Like Fine Wine, Every Day with Grandma is like Sunday" In the late 1700's and 1800's St.Louis, the "Gateway to the West', grew rapidly. By 1885 the St. Charles area was part of a well developed wine industry in the state of Missouri and the United States. Anna and Peter Minges, who were well known vintners in Sankt Martin, Rhineland-PfalzGermany, immigrated to St. Charles with their five children to escape the hardships of their 'mother land'.

St. Charles County Historical Society (SCCHS) in conjunction with the St. Charles Community College History Department (SCC) is hosting a hands-on computer workshop entitled "What Every Genealogist Should Know about Family Search" on Saturday, September 12, 2009. The presenter is Mr. Bill Popp, archivist of the St. Charles County Historical Society for the past 5 years. Previously, for 18 months he provided computer-based training to incoming volunteers for the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Popp has taught a variety of genealogy classes and seminars throughout the St. Louis area. New DVD Released - "From One Room Schools to Franklin" St. Charles County Historical Society has just released a new DVD "From One Room Schools to Franklin" which tells the story of African-American education in St. Charles County prior to integration in 1955. Through historic photos and interviews with Franklin School alumni we learn of the pride the students took in their school and in the teachers who nurtured them. St. Charles County Historical Society Combines with St. Charles Genealogical Society The St. Charles County Genealogical Society and The St. Charles County Historical Society have agreed to merge into one organization, effective May 1, 2009. The Genealogoical society's library at 1022 First Capital Drive, will be closed and the Historical Society archives will provide research facilities for the combined holdings. This will result in the most complete collection of St. Charles County genealogical records ever assembled. Posted- 2/25/09 |

St. Charles City Will Observe Bicentennial The City of St. Charles will observe the bicentenial of its incorporation as a town on Oct. 13, 2009. Many of the city's early records and photos are available for research at our archives. In 1909 the city had 5 days of events celebrating the incorporation.
